It was a year ago on a cold Sunday evening that Jeff and his younger daughter returned from Blue Mountain. Within 12 hours, he would disappear, never to be seen alive again. RIP Jeff Boucher. I agree with the premise you lay out in your book, Ann. My own theory is that his actions were motivated by shame associated with the money found at work. This whole series of events (found money, meeting with higher ups) coinciding with his disappearance always struck me as too much of a coincidence… The police deemed the found money was not an issue. The 3K in the file cabinet may not have been per se — it was Jeff Boucher’s perception of what was about to happen (a school investigation) that, in my opinion, pushed him over the edge. It strikes me, given the personalities involved, that any form of public humiliation/public shame would be something to avoid at all costs. His already fragile nature, as you describe with the dissociative episode whilst teaching in Europe, would contribute to an at-risk personality. All my two cents, but on this one-year anniversary, I find myself turning over these puzzling events all over again.
