Breaking Bad season one — calling all black comedy fans

I’m officially recommending Breaking Bad season one for holiday DVD viewing and after all the parents have gone to bed.

It’s the story of Walter White, a mild mannered high school chemistry teacher, who turns to meth dealing when he’s diagnosed with lung cancer. Complications include his ex-student stoner partner, his passive aggressive wife Skyler, their physically disabled son, his kleptomaniac sister-in-law and her husband, the DEA agent.

There are moments of pure gold black comedy. And with only seven episodes, you’ll still have plenty of time to join the family Scrabble tournament.

On the off chance that you don’t spend Christmas with the family and need a DVD series to keep you busy, The Wire all five seasons will help you make it to New Year’s Eve.
